Scottish Tattoo Convention

Updated: May 8, 2023

25th & 26th March 2023 It could be the wettest, most miserable week but when the Scottish Tattoo Convention rolls in to town, those clouds melt away and the sun shines down brightly on the tattoo community of Scotland and beyond, as we congregate in the familiar walls of the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. If you haven't had the chance to attend yet, definitely give it a shot next time around. It's truly an exceptional convention that can hold its own against any other on the continent. It's the only one in Scotland actually and it features a diverse selection of home-grown talent and skilled artists from far and wide.

After a COVID-fuelled 4 year hiatus, The Scottish Tattoo Convention returned for its 10th year! Uniting some of the finest tattooers from all over Scotland with an array of esteemed artists from around the globe. Pretty much every style could be accounted for, from realism, to surrealism, to traditional, to Japanese, neo-trad, the artist list had you covered for whatever you could think of.

If you've been scrolling for hours and stumble upon an artists whose work you fall in love with, tattoo conventions are your golden ticket! The organisers usually release the artist list with months in advance leaving plenty of time to get the pennies together! No need to hop on a plane, then a train, maybe even a boat? If you're lucky you can show up and secure your spot. Or, if you're the more spontaneous type, you'll find table after table of available designs and artists with walk-up space! Sure, it might be a tad busy, but fear not! The environment is clean and safe, and there's always a curious crowd watching you, you watching back as you endure the wet-fire- you'll find the minutes turn to hours and the next thing you know, you're wrapped up with a pint in hand.

As well as watching live tattooing in action, tattoo conventions are always jam packed with quirky (and sometimes risqué) entertainment for its patrons. Although tattoo conventions in themselves tend to be reasonably child-friendly, distracting the wee yins when the entertainment comes out might be wise. Five words: Alice. Down. The. Glory. Hole.

Until next time.
